Alright. lots of people have been having problems with rapidshare, not sure how to download or what to do once you have downloaded!
So im going to keep this section updated with help and hints 2 keep your rapidshare needs at bay.
first things first. ALMOST all rapidshare links are .rar files (winrar) but they come in lots of other types as well :-
.zip
.ace
.7z
.uharc
.001, 002, 003 etc
and MANY MANY MANY more!
So my recomendation is to download a fantastic package called Winrar 3.71 EXTREME! this is a package that can open just about ANY file you throw at it! (it also has lots of prety themes so you can make it look all shiny and new ;)) so HERE (http://upload66.com/file/10978/WiNRAR-v3-71-FiNAL-EXTREME-rar.html) is the link to download it. i advise before you start using rapidshare you install this software.
Alright, so now you can open your files you want to download them. well here are some hints on how to find links to those files you just can't live without.
-Tip 1- Google
everyone thinks google is this innocent, family friendly website BUT IT CAN BE VERY USEFULL! all you need too do (and this will sound stupid, but trust me) is type in the name of the film/program/file you need followed by the word rapidshare... and thats it. 9/10 times it will retreve sites that will contain direct rapidhare links... how easy is that! (Note pic below)
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z184/mattyBG/google.jpg
-Tip 2- Wares Sites
This is a tricky area to sum up quickly... but there are some sites that are fantastic at finding what you need.
my personal favourate is www.phazeddl.com (http://www.phazeddl.com) because i have used it countless times and it always finds what i need... HOWEVER if you are going to use a website PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure you have a VERY GOOD, UP-TO-DATE anti-virus program. as sometimes (rarely) you will find infected files from sotes like this so ALWAYS scan files before you open them.
-Tip 3- Knowing what to trust (this is an important one!)
Alright. this is something that is very obvious but possibly should be said. there are some arseholes out there who want your personal data, this is true of almost ALL websites that post free downloads (not this 1 tho ;)) so its a very easy thing to remeber to avoid these problems. LOOK AT THE FILE SIZE! if you are downloading a movie and the file is only 10mb then it isnt real! or if you are downloading a program REALY look at the size of the file. and look out for the word "RIP" when downloading a game (Rip = a game that has had audio and/or video removed from it. so the size will be much smaller).
As a general rule you should scan ANYTHING downloaded from the internet with an antivirus. my personal choice is mcafee, HERE (http://rapidshare.com/files/73220181/Mcafee_TP08.rar) is a link to download the full mcafee 2008 total protection suite. (NO CRACKING NESCESARY!!!! and free updates THAT WORK!!!!)
-Tip 4- If all else fails
If all else fails there is ALWAYS something on limewire. it is the most virus proned program of all time! but 99% of the time it will get results. i prefer it to torrent websites but its realy up to whoever wants the file.
Alright then. im posting this thread to help anybody with ANY rapidshare problems, i will try to update it with workarounds or hacks as i hear about them. but PLEASE if you have any problems then post them in here and i will help you as soon as i can.
hope this helps, matty0 :)

Brilliant, easy to understand, very detailed info as usual. Thanks Matt!
I have a question. When I use firefox, I pretty much can DL anything. Almost anything. lol. I don't know what you call it, but next to the browser, don't know what it's called, but there are three different color ballons. When you go to a video, if it can be DL, those little balloons start to turn. It's DL helper. That's what it is. When I click on it, I usually can DL a movie. Ummmm, am I making any sense??
My question, geez, it's Friday. Can Veoh movies be DL with that??
matty0

Question for you. I just went back to fullrelease. I was at a page where a list of downloads and some movies were. Now when I log in there, I can't get to that page. HELP!!

Yep, great advice bro.
I have been using Rapidshare & Megaupload for a few years now (Premium Accounts FTW!!)
Don't forget http://www.warez-bb.org/ probably the greatest Warez site on the net. If you can't find what your looking for there, then theres a good chance in doesn't exist :p

i'm wondering if there is anyway to download more than say 5 100mb files quicker than having to wait like 108 minutes between each one aside from buying the rapidshare premium account?
i'm totally confused.

nope unfortunately thats the irritating side of rapidshare. theres no way round it. u could buy a premium acount but short of that u just gotta live with it im afraid. sorry. p.s how come this thread has moved from help/support?

Rattlesnake, I tried that multidl.com for one of Legend's urls via copy and paste and it didn't work. I then tried to substitute the "/" after the 8 digit code thinking the url instructions were somewhat cryptic, but that didn't work either. If an url mod is needed, could you provide instructions or an example here? Thanks.

Matty0: nope unfortunately thats the irritating side of rapidshare. theres no way round it.
How about this problem, Matty. Is it usual for free dl's to run at between 20 and 50 kbs? Rapidshare seems sooooo slow, I don't usually find it worth using. Are there secrets to getting the rate up beyond doing it late night when traffic is slower?

For faster download speeds remember to use a download accelerator not your browser my favourite download accelerators are Flashget, Internet Download Manager, & DAP.
I've been using IDM since I joined Rapidshare, my average download speeds are 600kbps-1MB & thats quite fast for New Zealand standards as we have one of the slowest connection speeds worldwide.
I'm unsure if Free Users can use Download Managers/accelerators, I've never been a free user & have always had a Premium account, can't hurt to try.

01-12-2008, 07:11 AM
Rapidsahre doesn't support download managers on free users, only paid accounts, I have a paid account and get a good download speed without using a download manager, can download whole movie of 8 files in around 10 minutes and thats fast enough for me :)

Thanks for clearing it up about free users & download managers, always wondered.
But what do you use instead of a download manager ghost? your browser?

So your using your internet browser with a Premium account? so you load each rapidshare link into your browser one at a time? & your happy with that? seems kind of pointless.
If thats the case make your life easier ghost & invest in a Download manager asap.
Why copy & paste each link one at a time into your browser, when you can just copy & paste all your links into the manager & click 'Download'
Or do you have a Super advanced underground browser that I don't know of :p
Although if your happy, your happy, I guess.
Ghost Rider
01-12-2008, 04:49 PM
I just don't see it as a big deal to copy and paste some links, as you say everyone to there own and I don't see it as a hardship, and I don't think using a download manager is going to save me very much time, just another program on my computer to bog it down, and beleive me I have enough already lol
The Maori
01-12-2008, 05:29 PM
I don't think using a download manager is going to save me very much time
:D Mate it will save you too much time.
Here's an example:
*Right, say you want to download 'Aliens Vs Predator' in HD 720p format, thats roughly 4-6GB's.
*Now, without a Download Manager that's 40-60 links that you have to manually copy & paste into your browser. If you actually wanted to watch the movie asap, you would have to wait around your pc getting ready to paste your next link.
*This is where Download Managers save you the time & hassle, as well as increasing your download speeds.
*Simply, copy & paste all your 40-60 links to your Download Manager & click the 'Download' button it will automatically move on to the each link once finished.
*Thus meaning you are free to do as you please, go out for the night, have a sleep, house duties etc.
*As far as bogging your PC, they are no more than 10mb & only reduce your surf speeds when downloading.
Sorry to preach on about RS, but it's all in good will bud ;)

Oh I'm the same as you maori, I've had a paid account for a year, and best money spent, and I do download a lot of movies from RS, I use to use dap before I had a paid account, but had reformatted since and didn't get it back again, what would you suggest for the best download manager and I will give it a try.
The Maori
01-13-2008, 01:15 AM
what would you suggest for the best download manager and I will give it a try.
(IDM) Internet Download Manager, then just use it's built in scheduler, you can setup how much files you want to download at once (ie 5 RS links at 200kbps at same time & so on etc)
Most people use Flashget, I personally prefer IDM, have a play around & see what suits you.

Do you mean a flat price for Rapidshare? Winrar is the program used to unzip the files once downloaded.
I am unsure if there is a flat rate as I just update my account yearly, have a look around on the Rapidshare site.

Ok, I just finished the dl of the winrar free evaluation version. I also finished the dl for the mcafee protection. When I open the winrar program under files I see a couple of options, 1. mcafee 2008. bin and 2. mcafee 2008. cue. What next? I know this is probrably annoying so I'm gonna keep trying to make it work and If I happen to get it I'll be sure to let you know. Thank you in advance for all of you help.

ok, this is a problem ive had 2 answer a few times so i probably should put the answer in the thread.
the files are "cd image files" so you mount them on an cd/dvd rom emulation program as you would an iso file (if you wanted to play a game without a cd for example) there are loads of different emultion programs you can get, but i think the best ones are "alcohol 120% (http://rapidshare.com/files/83506336/Alcohol120_1.9.7.6022_Retail_Incl_Key.rar)", "Power Iso (http://www.midload.com/en/file/20125/Power-ISO-v3-8-rar.html)" or "deamon tools (http://rapidshare.com/files/55740211/DAEMON_Tools_v4.10.0215.0.rar)" (Deamon Tools Pass = www.ztforums.com) as these 3 work fast and seem to be very reliable in my experiance. once you have downloaded one of these then mount the larger one of the 2 files in the mcafee 2008 download onto the emulated cd drive (it will now appear as if you have it as a cd in your computer) then run it as normal :)
it dosent need to be cracked, after installing you have 365 glorious days of protection lol. once the 2009 version is released i will put a link to that (but im guessing we have some time before that lol)
hope this helps, (if you get power iso i can give you a more detailed guide on mounting as that is what i use)

I've been using this program for a while now, use to get fed up downloading 8-10 parts from rapidshare only to find the quailty of the movie sucked or it wasn't even the right movie, this program allows you to watch one part of your compressed download, no need to extract with winrar etc, just open the part with Dziobas RAR Player, and you get to watch that part of the movie.
This has saved me a lot of wasted time using this program, is freeware program, so no worries about trials or time limits with the program.
Dziobas RAR Player
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/2/3drp1be3.png
Compressed video is a great way to download and share movies, but it does have a downside in that you normally need to wait for the whole thing to unpack in WinRAR before you can see it. This nifty little tool solves that problem, by allowing you to watch parts of a video before it has fully unpacked.
The program includes a surprising amount of functions, based around Media Player Classic. You get options for resizing the viewer, adjusting the video settings, and altering the playback speed. There's even a tool for handling subtitles, allowing you to speed them up or slow them down to fit the video. Although the quality of playback can be a little jerky, it provides a great way to make sure that your compressed video files are in tact, and that you're actually unpacking the right movie.

but overall its good enough if u dont want to extract

If a movie is split into parts, then won't let you unzip just one part without doing the rest, that's the point of this, you can view it without having to download and unzip all parts.

Hi The Maori.
I tried this a few times. When you get to where it asks you for more parts if you close that message it also takes away the part it was un ziping so you cant open it So I dont know how you do it?
Incase i am doing it wrong: This is what I do. I down load the file and save it to a folder on my desktop with the name of the movie I am downloading. Then I unzip the Winrar file to that folder and ask to unzip to that folder which works ok if all the files are there. But as I said if you try and open the 1 file only it asks you for more parts, and if you close that box it also takes away the download.
So I must be doing something wrong... Cheers John.

Here is a little tip...
How To Check Movie Quality or Pass From 1 RAR File
You Need to Download The First RAR File (RAR #1) .
Right click on RAR file # 1, select Extract Files (when using WinRar),
In the New window at bottom left corner, check box to Keep broken Files,
Click OK
RAR should open
If Password is required enter password, this will let you know if the password is correct or not.
RAR file # 1 should open and prompt you for the next file, at this point just close everything.
To Check Quality
Right click on Video then select Open With (choose your player) VLC Media Player or Media Player Classic. This will play that portion of the movie; you can now see the quality and what your are about to download. Your choice from there, whether to complete the download or not!

Not sure this is the right place to ask, but seemed most appropriate...
Basically I have a quite slow internet connection (512 kilobits per second) so I'm looking to download smaller files. The Alias (http://www.movie-forumz.org/showthread.php?t=45669&highlight=alias) thread, for example, is perfect, cos it has lovely 80mb episodes in .mp4 format on Megaupload.
Is there anyway I can search for .mp4, .mkv or even .flv files rather than have to wait 2 hours for a 350mb .avi file?
Thanks in advance.

Hello, I'm new to this site and I am having problems with the Winrar program. I downloaded flv file and I'm trying to play/convert that file or send it to a DVD. I have read the sticky but I'm just not understanding the program. I also tried the McAfee download as well and it does have a free XXX.html link and a text file. :-)
I really do enjoy this site. I'm going to try to watch some of the videos from my WM 6.1 smartphone. Thanks for the help...

The easiest way to play an .flv file is to download VLC Player (http://www.download.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10267151.html). Then just drag the .flv file onto the player and it will play.
I'm not sure about burning it to a DVD, because I never do that, I just stick them on an external HD. Anyway hope this helps.
